Two Giant Japanese Companies To Invest in Cambodia

Phnom Penh: The two largest Japanese companies Nippon Express and Oji Paper have decided to enter the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ) after they see the potential for investment and political stability in Cambodia.

Hiroshi Uematsu, Chairman of the Board Director of PPSEZ, said at PPSEZ’s meeting in February 20 that he signed with Nippon Express, Japan’s largest logistics company and the company will set up a 4-hectare production center PPEZ.

He added that he also signed with Oji Paper, the largest paper company in Japan, to invest in Cambodia, where the company will set up a paper box factory on a 6-hectare plot.Currently, the company is also renting a factory for producing automotive spare parts for Japanese automobile.

Mr. Hiroshi Uematsu claimed that for five years, the shareholders are satisfied with the productivity of Cambodian workers; they want to expand their production in Cambodia.
According to PPSEZ, it currently employs nearly 20,000 workers, each receiving salary based on the government’s standard because companies investing in the PPSEZ are international companies and follow the laws of the country.

PPSEZ currently has 84 listed companies and 70 companies operating on its investment projects.
